Geometric and Topological Combinatorics, Alcala 2006

Alcalá de Henares is located about 30 kilometers away from Madrid center. Important information is marked in this map of Alcalá, but you can also find here an online map (choose also Madrid province). The main ways of reaching there are:

By train: The lines C1, C2 and C7 of the "Cercanías" trains, connect Madrid and the "Alcalá de Henares" train station (see the map). The three of them pass through the main stations in Madrid, "Chamartin" and "Atocha", as well as through "Nuevos Ministerios" (click here for a map of the Cercanias network). The trip takes 35 minutes from Atocha. Tickets can be obtained either at ticket offices or machines.
- Please note the existence of an "Alcalá de Henares Universidad" station, which is not the right one.

By bus: The lines 223 and N202 of the interurban buses, connects Madrid and Alcalá de Henares. Departure station in Madrid is "Avenida de América" station and arrival station in Alcalá is that of the company Continental-Auto (see the map).

By car: Alcalá is next to the A-2 highway that connects it to Madrid. You can take exit number 23, although there are some others.

From Madrid-Barajas airport:

The Madrid-Barajas airport is located between Madrid and Alcalá. Transportations from there are:

Taxi: for a trip of about 30 minutes which should cost about 40-45 euros (please consider both amounts as lower bounds, strongly dependent on traffic jams).
Underground+Train: There is an underground stop at terminal T2, which can be reached by walk from terminals T1 and T3, or by a shuttle bus from terminal T4 (see this map). There, take line 8 up to the "Nuevos Ministerios" station (direction is also "Nuevos Ministerios"), where lines C1, C2 and C7 of the "Cercanías" suburban trains can be taken (see the paragraph about arriving by train).

The total trip takes around 1 hour from the underground station, plus around 30 minutes to reach there if arrival is at terminal T4.

LAST TIME NEWS: Starting on September 1, the line 8 of the subway (leading to the airport) is working without interruptions again.

Moving around in Alcalá de Henares:

From the stations to the accomodations:

To Residencia San Ildefonso and Hotel Husa el Bedel: Both are located at the "San Diego square", which is about 10 minutes walking from the Continental bus station and 15 minutes walking from the Cercanias train station. The easiest path is depicted here. There are also taxi stops next to both stations.

Once in San Diego square you will see the Rectorado building:
- The Hotel Husa el Bedel is the building to the right of the Rectorado (see this map).
- The Residencia San Ildefonso is inside the Rectorado building. Just enter the main door, cross one courtyard and you will find it at the end of a second courtyard, to your left. See this map.
To Apartamentos Ciudad Residencial Universitaria: walk 2-5 minutes to the urban bus stop (see this map). Then take the line 2 (some buses show either 2C or 2P, both are right) to the university Apartamentos, see this map, red path.

A single ticket costs 1.05 euros and can be bought on board. There is also a 10 trips ticket for 5.25 euros, which can be bought in advance at tobacco/newspapers shops. You can find information about timetables and stops here. Stops are also depicted as red dots in the above map, red path (the one for the apartments should be called something like "cafe universidad").

Between the accomodations and the Course/Workshop:

Both Course and Workshop will take place at a conference room in the patio de San Ildefonso, at the Rectorado building.

From/To Residencia San Ildefonso: Just cross your courtyard (see this map).
From/To Hotel Husa el Bedel: Just enter the Rectorado building (see this map).
From/To the Apartamentos: Take line 2 of the urban buses (see the paragraph above) towards downtown. The line ends at "Cervantes square". From there, it takes less than five minutes walking to reach the Rectorado building; see this map.
